The area and how to get around
The house sits in the village of Ascq, the oldest and quietest part of Villeneuve-d'Ascq. A genuine village neighbourhood with its bakeries, its church and its calm streets, right next to Héron park. A great place to study in peace while staying close to student life in Lille.
Campuses and studies
The main campuses of the metropolitan area are easy to reach without a car:
- the Pont-de-Bois campus (University of Lille: humanities, languages, social sciences) has a direct bus link, line 13, from the neighbourhood;
- the Cité Scientifique campus (University of Lille sciences, together with Centrale Lille, IMT Nord Europe and Polytech Lille) is about ten minutes away by bike, or roughly half an hour on foot.
Getting around
- Bus line 13 (Ilévia): stops in the neighbourhood. It runs to Villeneuve-d'Ascq Hôtel de Ville on one side (the V2 shopping centre) and Lille Fives on the other, calling at the Pont-de-Bois campus on the way.
- Ascq TER train station: direct trains reach Lille-Flandres in about ten minutes, with around twenty departures a day. Handy for central Lille or a TGV connection.
- Metro line 1: the 4 Cantons - Grand Stade station is a bike ride away and serves the whole Lille metropolitan area.
- By bike: allow 10 to 15 minutes to Cité Scientifique.
Shops and daily life
The village of Ascq covers the essentials on foot, starting with its bakeries and local services. For bigger shopping trips, the V2 shopping centre (Aushopping, with its Auchan hypermarket) sits at the terminus of bus 13.
And when you need a break from revision, Héron park, one of the largest green spaces in the area with its lake and trails, starts practically at the end of the street.
