The area and how to get around

The house sits in the village of Ascq, the oldest and quietest part of Villeneuve-d'Ascq (Lille metropolitan area): a genuine village neighbourhood with its own shops, right next to Héron park and its lakeside paths — perfect for a break after class.

Campuses & studies

Villeneuve-d'Ascq's main campuses are easy to reach without a car:

  • the Cité Scientifique campus (University of Lille — sciences, sharing its site with École Centrale de Lille, IMT Nord Europe and Polytech Lille): direct bus, or about ten minutes by bike;
  • the Pont-de-Bois campus (humanities, languages, social sciences): direct bus as well.

Bus line 13 (Ilévia) serves the neighbourhood and links both campuses — the simplest daily commute, with cycling the fastest option at peak times.

Getting around

  • Bus line 13: stops in the neighbourhood, towards the campuses and city centre;
  • Ascq TER train station: direct trains to Lille-Flandres in about ten minutes — handy for central Lille or a TGV connection;
  • Metro line 1: the 4 Cantons – Grand Stade station (terminus, on the Cité Scientifique side) is a bike ride away and connects the whole of Lille;
  • By bike, allow around 10–15 minutes to Cité Scientifique.

Shops & daily life

The village of Ascq covers the essentials on foot: mini-market, bakeries and local services. For bigger shopping trips, the V2 shopping centre (Aushopping, Auchan hypermarket) is a few minutes away by bus or bike.

And to unwind: Héron park, one of the largest green spaces in the metropolitan area with its lake and trails, starts practically at the end of the street.
